Payne & Jones remembers Steven L. Passer with gratitude for his years of service to the firm, his clients, and the community. Steve joined the firm in 1991 and served as a principal in its Business Practice Group. His passing represents a loss to our firm and to those whose lives and businesses he helped guide.

Throughout his career, Steve advised entrepreneurs and closely held businesses on matters ranging from formation and financing to contracts, employment, and succession. He also assisted business owners and their families with estate planning, taxation, real estate, and probate, and worked with families and school districts in special education law.

Steve’s path to law reflected his varied talents. Before earning his law degree with highest distinction from the University of Kansas, he spent ten years as a professional actor and director and earned degrees from Yeshiva University, James Striar University, and the University of Iowa. Whether polished by his years as an entertainer or simply driven, wildly vibrant personality, Steve brought his trademarked joy to his colleagues, his clients, and everyone fortunate to know him -  enough joy to fill several lifetimes.

His community involvement included co-founding Sasone, a program for children with special needs, and serving as a certified Kansas special education hearing officer.

We honor Steve’s life and the lasting contributions he made to Payne & Jones and the broader community.
